A Visit to the Gay & Lesbian
|
| From the 50s to the 80s in San Francisco, the Gay and Lesbian community was experiencing an evolution that would lead the way to homosexual liberation all over the world. This was the era of innocence, experimental sexual expression and creative erotica that would make the Marque de Sade blush. These were the expressions of the gay men and lesbians of that era that had the guts to break down the closet doors. These sexual renegades and artists were the pioneers that helped blaze the trails of early gay and lesbian sexual freedom. | ![]()

In 1983 two visionaries realized the importance of the Gay and Lesbian History. Starting out in their apartments, Willie Walker and Pennington combined their own personal collections of gay and lesbian memorabilia. This alliance has evolved into what is know as the Gay and Lesbian Historical Sociaty today. This past decade, the GLHS has grown and evolved into a professionally managed archive. |
